It’s not surprising that 63.3% of companies in the US are saying that retaining employees is actually harder than hiring them [1]. The number of posts and articles that we read or glance through every day in LinkedIn is testimony of that, and we dare say its not just in the US but also in other parts of the world.
In the same article by Haiilo, 71% of company executives believe that engagement is critical to their company’s success, echoed by 69% of employees who say that they would work harder if they were better appreciated [1]. Organisations spend tens of thousands of dollars if not more on Employee Engagement Survey, knowing the benefits of having engaged employees in their organisation, which include;
- Increased productivity
- Improved collaboration and teamwork
- Better levels of service to customers and stakeholders
“Living for the weekend”, “watching the clock tick”, “work is just a pay check”, generally sums up the real sentiments of global workers, according to Gallup. The Global Workplace 2022 report reveals that only 21% of employee are engaged at work, with most saying that they don’t find meaning in their work [2].
While Managers and Executives know the need to engage staff, yet most do very little in any real form of engagement. Marcus Buckingham, highlighted the need for viewing employees as organisation key stakeholders as well as the need trust each employee to accomplish their goals as they see fit [3]. Perhaps, some Restored Leadership® tips can help to build Responsiveness, by showing empathy and understanding so that a higher level of employee engagement can be reached.
Tip #1: Weekly Team Meeting Check-ins
It’s usual for teams to meet at least once a week to discuss tactical and administrative issues. Restored Leaders start their meetings with a 15-minute check-in, with “What was exciting for you in terms of your work last week?”.
Tip #2: Pre-weekend Insight
As the week draws to an end, Restored Leaders engage their teams with a reflective question, “How were you able to do what you love at work and the impact it may have created for you and others?”. This question can be sent through as an email or a text message.
Practice these for 4 weeks and monitor the mood, morale and engagement in the team, just grow!
