The article acknowledges that Employee Wellness matters more than ever, and perhaps so. It goes on to say that managers need to be “taught” to have one meaningful conversation every week. I firmly believe that almost everyone will agree with that. Having been a trainer for Crucial Conversations®, I cannot understate the importance of personal effectiveness skills.
However, I propose that we may need to take the conversation to a higher level other than looking at it from a viewpoint of mindfulness or happiness at work. Not that these are not important but we may need to consider a systems approach to “restoring leadership”.
In a Restored Leadership™ context, leaders work to creating a culture of accountability, transparency and inclusivity.
Some key characteristics of a Restored Leader include:
Responsiveness: Ability to show empathy and compassion towards team members and work to understand their perspectives.
Candor: Ability to prioritize open and honest communication, and encourage team members to share their thoughts and feelings.
Partnership: Ability to encourage teamwork and collaboration (partnership mindset), and work to create a positive and inclusive team & organizational culture
Accountability: Restored Leaders take responsibility for their actions and work to repair any harm that may have been caused
