Early Discoveries on the Second Mountain

Early Discoveries on the Second Mountain

Since I made my decision to climb my Second Mountain, I am discovering more and more #people who are looking for a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in what they are doing. Some months ago I came across the term “quiet quitting” and now I can safely say, I actually know those who have “quietly quit” in my circle.

While its easy to call them names, I actually think (at least the ones I know) to be highly intelligent and deeply engaged with life. Unfortunately, many truly don’t really find purpose and meaning in their jobs, their roles, or the organizations that they are in. They are also not sure that switching #jobs or roles will resolve the predicament that they are in. Many actually feel guilty, for “quietly quitting” because they know it may not be the right thing to do as it goes against their belief system.

So the question I ask them is, “what do you really want?” Easier asked than answered, I suppose. As I reflected on the question myself, I was transported to a time when I was conducting a Leadership program using a ropes course. There was an obstacle called the “Multi-vine” and it requires the participant to cross a rope bridge using only some hanging “vines” as support. In order to move, the participant would need to “let go” of one vine before lashing onto another, otherwise, the participant would be stranded in the middle. I encountered many who got stuck in the middle because they had difficulty “letting go”. I realized then, that those who finished the obstacle easily were the ones who had some idea of what the “end in mind” was for them. Many who got stuck in the middle also experienced some level of “quiet quitting” and they only started moving when I intervened with “you decide if you want to be stuck here or you move to what you really want”.

I am so much clearer about what “the end in mind” is for me and I am truly #grateful for it.

It is indeed time!
